5. Dressings
(1) Dressing means the material placed directly over the wound. It should always be sterile.
(2) Bandage means the material which holds the dressing on; therefore it should be snug, but not so tight as to stop circulation.
6. Infection...If a wound becomes infected, provide rest for the patient, obtain medical care, immobilize the infected part, elevate the infected extremity, apply wet applications using boiled water and 2 table spoons of salt at room temperature.
7. Nose bleed...Nose bleed will sometimes occur as a result of injury, pressure, altitude or colds.
(1) The victim should be kept quiet with his head tilted backward.
(2) Usually, the bleeding area is near the tip of the nose. Pinching the nostrils together, put pressure upon the area.
(3) Pack the bleeding nostril lightly and then pinch.
(4) Cold wet applications will help stop bleeding.
(5) Cotton or small folded paper on bridge of nose and under lip will control bleeding.

C. Shock
The objective is to prevent or reduce shock by keeping the victim lying down and comfortable.
1. Definition of shock...A depressed condition of many of the body functions due to failure of enough blook to circulate through the body following serious injury. First aid should be given for shock to all victims that may have been seriously injured.
2. Signs and symptoms of shock
(1) Breathing shallow and irregular
