Heliports at LaGuardia and International airports; White Plains Heliport at the Westchester County Municipal Airport in White Plains; Newark and Teterboro airports in New Jersey and Stamford Airport in Connecticut.

Manhattan and inter-airport flights shuttle between N. Y. International, LaGuardia, West 30th St. and Newark with suburban service flights between New York's airports, Teterboro, N.J., Stamford Conn. and White Plains

On inter-airport service, flight frequency is at least once an hour; on suburban service, a minimum of morning, noon and evening flights is offered. The economy, convenience and time savings of helicopter service are substantial.

In late August 1959m CAB Examiner Francis W. Brown handed down an initial decision on NYA's application for renewal of its temporary certificate authorizing helicopter service in the NY Metropolitan Area. It was granted a permanent conventional certificate with an exemption order permitting flexibility of operations. Restriction on its service changed from "rotary wing aircraft to "community center service" or "airport-to-airport service," thereby permitting use of any type of aircraft- "a historic step," according to NY Airways president, Robert L. Cummings, Jr.

Up to the present time, helicopter operations have depended on single, piston-enginded aircraft. Today passenger 'copter transportation is about to be revolutionized by the gas turbine engine. Both Vertol and Sikorsky are offering multi-engine, turbine-powered, 25-passenger 'copters available for service within the next three years, When these vehicles start operating, helicopter airlines will be freed of VFR restrictions for the first time. With this class of 'copter, airlines hope also to end their need for government subsidy payments.

Recently, in order to meet the growing demands of communities in the New York Metropolitan Area and in Anticipation of these developments in the aeronautical field, NY Airways took option on the first five Vertol Model 107 turbine-powered helicopters.

The Vertol is powered by the two General Electric CT-58 shaft-turbine engines and will carry up to 24 passengers at speed of 140 mph. It will cost $470,000 plus engines. These 'copters are capable-for the first time- of all-weather flights

President Cummings has said that harnessing turbine power to helicopters is even more important to helicopter transportation than is the advent of jet power to the fixed-wing transportation industry. These advance helicopters are expected to become available in early 1961.

Another new 'copter, the sleek new Sikorsky turbocopter Skyliner S-61 is a 25-passenger all-weather helicopter powered by three GE T-58-6 gas turbine engines and
