to phase comparison within the receiver. The result is then
displayed on indicators (Decometers) which reflect the 
position of the aircraft as it flies through the pattern
coverage. The Decca Navigator System shows the pilot visually
the geographical location of his helicopter with a stylus 
inscribing on a local area map the exact path being flown
thus enabling him to fly directly to his destination much as
a motorist follows a roadmap. The electronic equipment com-
prising the Decca Navigator System is manufactured by the
Bendix Corporation, the Laboratory for Electronics, General
Precision and other companies.
     The Air Traffic Division of the FAA in finalizing
instrument flight approval with the Decca Navigator System
as a primary navigation aid established a route width
of 1.5 nm on either side of the track center line; a minimum
vertical separation from other aircraft of 1,000 ft.; a
holding pattern airspace area of 2.6 nm width and 3.9 nm
length provided a hook-type entry is made into the holding 
area; a radar separation of 3 miles; and, a 1,000 ft. minimum
obstruction clearance altitude above the surface. [[500'moca]]
     Complete segregation of helicopter instrument traffic
from the fixed-wing traffic was the project goal in the early
stages of the program. After a lengthy and careful study,
