Office of Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen & Abandoned Lands for Robeson Co. Lumberton Aug 29th 1865

This agreement Made and entered into, day and date above mentioned between J.P. Barnes Planter of Robeson Co, of the one part and Ben Barnes a colored Freedman of the other part witnesseth that the said J.P. Barnes agrees to deliver to the said Freedman 15 bushels of corn  50 lbs of Pork and the usual allowance of food clothing, shoes and Medical attendance for his services, from the 27th of April 1865 until next Christmas, and the said Freedman on his part agrees to receive the above named articles in full compensation of all labor which he has, or may perform for the said J.P. Barnes for the period above specified, and the said Freedman further agrees to render unto the said J.P. Barnes true and faithful service obeying all lawful commands as he has been in the habit of doing when a slave,
