Personally appeared before me this day James E. Whaley of Edisto Island. State of South Carolina and being duly sworn makes oath as follows - to wit: - that he is a [[strikethrough]] lawful [[/strikethrough]] loyal citizen of the United States of America having taken the Amnesty Oath of President Johnson dated May 29th 1865. copy of which is hereunto affixed. that he is the owner of a plantation called "Cedar Hall" situated on Edisto Island, State of South Carolina consisting of (427) four hundred and twenty seven acres of land, that he has fullfilled all the requirements of the President of the U. S. in regard to the reclamation of land and he therefore prays that his property be restored to him -
