Dear Friend:

Things are not as bad as they look. The fellow I had in mind to show your paintings to did not appear. He is writing a book, but if he is really interested in a new "primitive", I am sure he would have come as soon as possible. Instead he drags me on and I have to suppose that his previous experiments with primitives have not been successful.

Mother and I are leaving Saturday for Whiteface Inn on Lake Placid, and I am afraid that I won't have an opportunity to see Charley. However, the office will remain open a while longer before closing for the summer, and I will leave word here to deliver your paintings to him should he come for them.

If I am wrong in my assumption above, I would not be surprised if in the months of September or October the man I had in mind comes back to me. What I cannot understand is the keen interest he seemed to have when I spoke to him first. Anyhow he had no opportunity, as you believed, to form a bad opinion about your paintings because he did not see them.

Hereunder a few names of galleries for your friend specialist in marines. As I do not know hiw works, I am unable to give you a better idea, but in any case he could try one of these and perhaps ask them for advice:

Downtown Gallery

Transcription Notes:
included the typo "hiw" for "his" You must type what you see. Any obvious typo does not need explaining.
