Hme. S. Soldatenkof,
Presidente Hotel,
Havana, Cuba.

Dear Madam Soldatenkof,

I have shown the photographs of those tapestries to Mr, Germanin Seligmann and, as I told you, we might be interested in them provided we could get them at a reasonable price. The figure that you mention is however prohibitive; in fact we doubt whether we could even sell them at anywhere near the price you have mentioned. Anyhow, we should like to see whether we could buy these tapestries at our figure, and therefore, if you would kindly give me the name and address of the owner, we would probably have one of the members of our firm go from Paris to look at them.

As regards your commission, we think the best way to arrange this would be to allow you ten per cent. (10%) on whatever price we eventually have to pay for these tapestries should we purchase this. I think this is a very fair proposition as, as a rule, we seldom give more than a five per cent. (5%) commission for a transaction of this kind.

Trusting you are having a nice time at Havana, and with my kindest regards, and awaiting the pleasure of hearing from you, believe me to be

Yours very sincerely,
JAQUES SELIGMANN & CO., Inc.,
