Office Genl Supt. Ed. R & F. State of La. New Orleans La Dec 27th 1865 Mrs J. F. [[Sinclair ?]] In reply to your letter of the 21st, I am instructed by the Genl Supt to state, that you will have to depend on the labor entirely of the colored people for repairs on the school house and wood to keep it warm for the finances of this office will not allow any expenditures to be made for those objects in the county. If you would make an urgent appeal to them, I should think they might appreciate the advantages of having a school there enough to keep you comfortable. The money for your services will be ready in a few days, and will be paid you or to any agent you may duly authorize to receive it. You do not state to this office whom to send your letters to, or how to direct them. No more desks will be issued at present. Respectfully, Nathan Willey Secretary Office Genl Supt of Ed R. & F. State of La.
