                           Miss Duncan R,
write us that they have been unable to fill your order for slates, because we have failed to keep them supplied with a stock. You will recollect that in a conversation with Mrs C. J. Barnes you concluded that it would be best to order the item of slates direct from us as it would make some little difference in the price, and upon that conclusion you gave an order for several cases, which were duly shipped upon our receipt of the order. Since then the price of slates have advanced about 10% yet we shall not make any advances in our price to you for a while, and unless you wish to buy slates direct from us, we shall have Duncan R. supply you hereafter, as they seem to claim your patronage, and consider that we are not acting exactly to agreement by furnishing them from here. Duncan R. will continue to furnish them at contract prices for the present and we shall ship to them today by sail 10 cases each 7x11 + 6x9, and shall keep them supplied hereafter.
