14. FERDINAND BOL - Born Dordrecht, 1611 or 1616; died, 1680.
Pupil of Rembrandt.

PORTRAIT OF A BOTANIST - At the age of 65, painted in the year 1641. Lent by Mr. Roland L. Taylor.

15. MATTHEW PRATT - Born in Philadelphia, Pa., 1743; died in Philadelphia, Pa., 1805. 
Pupil of Benjamin West in London.
COMMODORE PREBLE - 1761-1807. Son of General Jedidiah Preble, an officer of the Revolution. In 1798 (opening hostilities with France) he was appointed Lieutenant in the newly organized Navy and given command of the brig Pickering in the squadron of Commodore John Barry in the West Indies. Commissioned Captain in 1799 and ordered on the new frigate Essex. During the war with Tripoli in 1803 he was put in command of the 3rd Squadron to be sent to the Mediterranean.
His flagship, The Constitution, is seen against the background of the Bay of Naples and the volcano Vesuvius.

PORTRAITS OF GILBERT LIVINGSTON MORRIS AND EDWARD BERRIEN MORRIS.
Uncles of Harrison S. Morris and Jenny W. Morris. They were named for two Dutch Reformed ministers, as their father was a pillar in George W. Bethune's Church in Philadelphia.

20. SIR HENRY RAEBURN - Born at Stockbridge, 1756; died Edinburgh, 1823.
JUDGE CULLEN - One of a series of Scottish judges painted by Sir Henry Raeburn. The leading portrait painter of Scotland. Purchased in Edinborough, authenticated by the Secretary of the Royal Scottish Academy and a grandnephew of the sitter.

Miniature and crayon portrait painter.
WILLIAM PENN - Born in England, 1644; died in England, 1718.
This portrait of the Founder of Pennsylvania hung in Penn Castle, Dorset, England, for many years and was sent to America when the castle was sold about 1921. Painted c. 1778 from a bust by Sylvanus Bevan.

The first thoroughly trained European painter to settle in the United States. He arrived in 1729 in the entourage of Dean Berkeley. Influenced Feke and Copley.
