Mr. Robert M. Levy,
c/o Jacques Seligmann & Co., Inc.,
3 East 51st Street,
New York City.

Dear Mr. Levy:

Answering your letter of the 16th inst., the trustees of my father's estate would be willing to sell the Frans Hals. The only price they have ever placed on this picture is $175,000.00
I cannot say whether anything less than this would be acceptable, but if you care to make an offer I will submit it to them and give you an answer at a later date. The painting was originally purchased by my father at a cost of $250,000.00
In the collection are a number of primitives by Perugino, Pintoricchio, Bissolo, Francia and Luini, and and exceptionally fine Raeburn. Am sure the trustees would consider disposing of some, but do not believe they would care to place a price on any of them unless a bona fide purchaser came forward.

Sincerely Yours
John R. Thompson Jr.
