484 HELICOPTER AIR SERVICE PROGRAM

including helicopter service. I am presently serving as president of the Southern California Rapid Transit District and therefore am more aware than most people that the sprawling urban areas of modern America urgently need such a multisystem approach to transportation if they are to survive the mounting congestion on the highways.
In Pomona, such is our faith in the future of the helicopter and the total system approach to transportation that we are considering replacing our separate rail-bus depot and heliport with a large downtown transportation terminal which would serve two rail lines, four bus lines, taxi and limousine service, and helicopter lines. Please refer to the enclosed photographs showing the proposed downtown central terminal facilities with helicopter landing deck. We would not have such a program under serious study if we did not believe that metropolitan helicopter service will play an even more prominent role in solving our transportation problems in the future than it has in the past.
Pomona fully approves the proposal of the Civil Aeronautics Board for the permanent certification of Los Angeles Airways' helicopter service.
Sincerely,
HARRY A. FAULL, Mayor.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE,
Azusa, Calif., March 2, 1965.
Senator A. S. MIKE MONRONEY,
Chairman, Aviation Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Commerce, New Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.
DEAR SENATOR MONRONEY: With reference to hearings being held by your committee on the subject of expanding or limiting federally supported helicopter air service.
Because of the pitifully inadequate transportation facilities in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, particularly between Azusa and the Los Angeles International Airport, the Azusa Chamber of Commerce would be highly in favor of any proposal to establish the permanency of the Los Angeles Airways' helicopter service.
Azusa has a population of 27,350 and is heavily industrialized with over 200 industries, and is adjacent to Irwindale and Duarte, both of which share Azusa's need for ready access to major airlines.
With the continued growth of the Azusa area, the need will increase for air mail, express, and passenger service. We would therefore plead that the Los Angeles Airways helicopter be continued as a part of our air transport system, and that it be made possible to provide helicopter service for the city of Azusa.
Sincerely,
FOREST E. HANSON,
Secretary-Manager.

NEWPORT HARBOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE,
Newport Beach, Calif., March 2, 1965.
Senator A. S. MIKE MONRONEY,
Chairman, Aviation Subcommittee, Senate Committee on Commerce, New Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.
DEAR SENATOR MONRONEY: At a special meeting of the board of directors on March 2, it was moved and carried that it is the belief of this organization that there is a present need and will be a great future need for commuter air service to the Newport Beach area.
  Sincerely,
  EDGAR F. HIRTH, President.

GENERAL DYNAMICS, POMONA,
Pomona, Calif., February 26, 1965.
Senator A. S. MIKE MONRONEY,
Chairman, Aviation Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Commerce, New Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.
DEAR SENATOR MONRONEY: I wish to go on record that, in my considered opinion, Los Angeles Airways' helicopter service in southern California should be continued and expanded.
Los Angeles Airways provides a daily service that is of vital importance to us and to other industrial plants and residents of this area, as a carrier of passengers,
