GENERAL INFORMATION

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

The Sesquicentennial Forum on Transportation Engineering is the sequel to the 1966 National Transportation Symposium sponsored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers May 1-6, 1966, in San Francisco. The Preface to the 1966 Proceedings states in part:

"This Symposium is an effort to bring together various representatives of the transportation industry: manufacturers, operators, legislators, and administrators. They will integrate their related efforts through systems analysis in order to approach the solution to transportation's urgent problems."

The Sesquicentennial Forum on Transportation Engineering continues this tradition on a working and hardware-oriented level. The Forum is cosponsored by the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) and the Aviation and Space Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) with the participation of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and three additional Divisions of ASME, namely: Gas Turbines, Materials Handling, and Safety. The NYAS was selected as the administrative society in recognition of its Sesquicentennial Year, and also as an effort to involve a broader segment of the scientific community in the search of solutions to the interdisciplinary problems associated with transportation engineering.

New York and its environment offer many worthwhile attractions which provide an experience for the entire family. If you can bring your family, consider combining this trip with one to Montreal and a visit to Expo 67.
