Flight techniques, pilots training, landing and take-off patterns and routes, were developed in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Agency.  The experience gained by the 20,000 landing and take-offs at the Port Authority Rooftop Heliport at the New York World's Fair proved invaluable.

The city of the New York, through the Planning Commission and the Board of Estimate, held extensive hearings required to change the zoning of the Grand Central area and, finally, to approve the operation of such a heliport.  Public Relations problems involving noise and safety had to be resolved.

Flight paths have been laid out so that the noise has been placed over industrial areas and away from residential areas as much as possible.  Furthermore, the Vertol Division of the Boeing Company is investigating the possibility of making modifications to the V-107 Helicopter used on the Roof that will reduce the noise from blade slap.

All facilities for night flying were incorporated into the design.  During winter months a substantial portion of New York Airways flights to the Roof take place after dark.
