FACT SHEET

August 31, 1949: New York Airways, Inc. is incorporated in Delaware. 

March 13, 1952: The Civil Aeronautics Board awards a certificate to New York Airways, Inc., to furnish helicopter mail, cargo and passenger service to the metropolitan New York area.

October 15, 1952: Mail service is inaugurated between the three major airports - LaGuardia, Newark and New York International (Idlewild).

December 10, 1952: Mail service is extended to Bridgeport, Conn. and intermediate communities. 

January 26, 1953: Helicopter Air Freight Service is inaugurated on the inter-airport route. This was the first scheduled helicopter air freight service in the world. 

February 16, 1953: Night flying begins between three major airports. 

March 16, 1953: Scheduled air freight service is inaugurated on a common carrier basis on all routes presently existing.

April 8, 1953: Night flying is extended to Bridgeport, Conn. run. 

June 9, 1953: Service is extended to Trenton, N.J., inaugurating the first downtown commercial heliport in an United States city.

July 8, 1953: The first regularly scheduled passenger helicopter service in the world is opened between the three major airports. 

September 20, 1953: New York Airways personnel become an integral part of Civil Defense for the City of New York. 

August 3, 1954: Helicopter passenger service is opened from LaGuardia and Idlewild International Airports in New York to New Brunswick and Trenton, N.J.

August 30, 1954: New York Airways becomes the first helicopter airline in the world to fly passengers at night after a dramatic series of test flights, becoming the first single-engine operation ever
