to be approved by the Civil Aeronautics Authority for the scheduled carriage of passengers at night, becoming the world's first helicopter airline to offer day and night transportation of passengers, mail and freight.

November 4, 1954 : Helicopter passenger service is inaugurated to White Plains, N.Y. and Stamford, Conn., connecting those communities with all other points on the New York Airways network.

February 16, 1955 : Inauguration of first trunk carrier-helicopter joint tariff fare for passengers between Northwest Airlines and New York Airways. 

April 25, 1955 : New York Airways passenger, air freight and air express service is inaugurated into Teterboro, N.J., connecting Teterboro with the three other major airports. 

October 19, 1955 : New York Airways purchases, for delivery in 1956, of a fleet of new Sikorsky S-58 helicopters, capable of carrying twelve passengers each. 

October 26, 1955: New York Airways signs joint fare agreements with many major national and international airlines, which means "all the way by air" between passenger points on New York Airways' routes and those of the participating fixed-wing carriers. 

April 7, 1956 : New York Airways takes delivery of a Bell 47-H "Bellairus" Executive Helicopter for charter work.  

June, 1956 : During this month New York Airways carried its 50,000th scheduled revenue passenger and completed its first million passenger miles.  

June 21, 1956 : New York Airways receives the National Safety Council Award of Honor "in recognition of its contribution to safe air transportation, having operated two years, and, as of December, 1955, 737,000 passenger miles without a passenger or crew fatality in scheduled passenger carrying operation". This marks the first time in which helicopter airlines were so recognized by the National Safety Council.

August 3, 1956 : New York Airways takes delivery of the first commercial S-58 helicopter. This is the largest helicopter certificated for scheduled air transportation.
