September 24, 1956: New York Airways began the first 3000 hour overhaul of an S-55 helicopter, being the first operator in the world, including the military, to have logged that many hours on this type of helicopter.

September 25, 1956: The West 30th Street Heliport in Manhattan is dedicated and regularly scheduled mail and cargo service commences at this facility. 

December 5, 1956: Passenger Service is inaugurated into the West 30th Street Heliport. This marks the first scheduled passenger helicopter flights into Manhattan. 

June, 1957: New York Airways wins its third National Safety Council Award having flown without a passenger or crew fatality since it began scheduled passenger flights on July 8, 1953. In the same month it flew its 100,000th passenger.

March 26, 1958: NYA signed contracts with Airways Modernization Board for evaluation of high accuracy non-line-of-sight hyperbolic navigation system and development of air traffic control procedure for helicopter operations. 

March 28, 1958: NYA appointed Bell Aircraft Overhaul and Repair Agency. 

May 28, 1958: New York Airways places three of its fleet of tandem rotor, 15 passenger Vertol V-44 helicopters into operation. 

June 16, 1958: New York Airways purchases five 15 passenger buses for use at La Guardia and Idlewild Airports. The buses transport passengers from the helicopter pad directly to their fixed-wing transportation ticket desks at Idlewild. 

January 15, 1960: New York Airways contracts to purchase a fleet of ten twin-turbine Boeing-Vertol V-107 helicopters designed to cruise in excess of 150 miles per hour with 25 passengers.
