Major H H Foster
Supt &c Magnolia N.C.

Dr. Sir
Buck Houston (freed) has applied to me to get a son of his named Abram who is now in the possession of Mr. A.F. Williams, who refuses to surrender him. Buck informs me that you wrote Major Pearsall Chm. of our Co Court to have the boy taken for him. Legally a justice of the Peace can do nothing in the pursuing The only legal remedy is by Habeas Corpus and this writ can only be granted in this state by a judge of the Superior Court. The nearest Judge is Buxton of Fayetteville There will be a judge here 4th Monday in March our Superior Court at which time there is no doubt that Buck can get the boy by law. It can be done immediately by taking the parties to Fayetteville. I have written this to explain to you Bucks legal remedy &c
