Our aim is to drive Mr. You-Know-Who out of Harlem.

MR. PARKER
Who's this Mr. You-Know-Who?

THEO
Damn, Pop! The white man!

MR. PARKER
Oh, himmm!

BLUE
We like to use that name for our members in order to get away from the bad feelings we have whenever we use the word "white." We want our members to always be objective and in this way we shall move forward. Before we get through, there won't be a single Mr. You-Know-Who left in this part of town. We're going to capture the imagination of the people of Harlem. And that's never been done before, you know.

MR. PARKER
Now, tell me how?

BLUE
(Standing before the charts, pointing with his cane.) You see this here. This is what we call a "brigade." And you see this yellow circle?

MR. PARKER
What's that for?

BLUE
My new and entertaining system for the playing numbers. You do play the numbers, Mr. Parker?

MR. PARKER
I do.

BLUE
You see, I have a lot of colors in this system and these colors are mixed up with a whole lot of numbers, and the idea is catch the right number with the right color. The right number can be anything from one to a hundred, but in order to win, the color must always be black. The name of this game is called "black heaven." It's the color part that gives everybody all the fun in playing this game of mine.

MR. PARKER
Anybody ever catch it?

BLUE
Sure, but not until every number and every color has paid itself off. The one thing you'll find out about my whole operation: you can't lose. (Pause for effect.)

MR. PARKER
Keep talking.

BLUE
Now over here is the Red Square Circle Brigade, and this thing here is at the heart of my dream to create here in Harlem a symbolic life-force in the heart of the people.

MR. PARKER
You don't say——

BLUE
Put up that target, Theo. (Theo hurriedly pins on wall a dart target with the face of a beefy, southern-looking white man as bull's-eye.)

MR. PARKER
Why, that's that ol' dirty sheriff from that little town in Mississippi!

BLUE
(Taking a dart from Theo.) That's right—— we got a face on a target for every need. We got governors, mayors, backwood crackers, city crackers, Southern crackers, and Northern crackers. We got all kinds of faces on these targets that any good Harlemite would be willing to buy for the sake of slinging one of these darts in that bastard's throat! (Throws dart, puncturing face on board.)

MR. PARKER
Let me try it one time. (Rising takes dart from Blue and slings it into the face on the target.) Got him! (A big laugh.)

BLUE
It's like I said, Mr. Parker: the idea is capture the imagination
