Blue geese & a immature white that has passed here en route west the last 2 days - fog every night with sun after 9 am the last 3 days.

Whooping crane - Up to 1912-15 Whooping cranes occurred in small nos. each winter on coastal marshes according to David Doland who was born here. Last winter he said he saw 9 or 10 (1927) but only saw 2 together once. The others were seen singly at intervals in different parts of the same district & I believe there were only 2 birds at first & 1 later. When I put this up to Doland he agreed this was probably the situation. This is a good example of the way erroneous results of observations might be given.

Doland & a friend left Grand Chenier at 7.45 am for Johnson Bayou in effort to locate the geese that flew over yesterday & day before they were heard last night & night before flying over in the fog.

Doland found about 2000 at a loc. known as Oyster Bay lying just west of Calcasieu R. south of St. John's Is. The people said they had come in within last 2 days so they were no doubt the birds of the flight we saw
