On No Name Key.

From there we went to Big Pine Inn, near the S. end of Big Pine Key.

Big Pine Key March 21 Friday Remained at the Inn. George & Earl putting out traps on Big Pine & other Keys - Dried skins from Lower Matecumbe.

Early in the morning on Big Pine Key took the first coon on this group of keys. It was an old ♂ about same size as the old ♂s taken on Key Largo but appears to represent a new species. It has a curious dingy yellow color with very slight darkening from black tipped overlying guard hairs; the tail very slender with rings obsolescent no black on ears & the black cheek patches obsolescent. The animal looks like a strange heavy bodieds fox more than like a raccoon. A ♀ taken on Big Pine today has fairly well marked black cheeks but otherwise similar to ♂. Five coons taken on No Name Key evidently same as those of Big Pine.
