Training Program

CHANCE VOUGHT Aircraft is extremely fortunate in obtaining the cooperation of the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aeronautics of New York University in training its future women engineers. The entire classroom and laboratory training program will be under the direction of the New York University College of Engineering Faculty. The first group of Chance Vought Scholars will start their specialized training at New York University in February 1943, and remain there for two semester or about eight months.

The program at New York University will cover a wide ranges of classroom and laboratory work. Time will be limited, so that inly the basic essentials of an aeronautical engineering course can be taught. It may be possible to alter the training program slightly for a student who has specialized interest, or whose training and experiences have been directed toward a particular goal. The curriculum will include the following courses:

First Term:
Engineering Drawing and Descriptive Geometry
The elements of drafting techniques and procedures, lettering and dimensioning, projections and views.

Mathematics
Review of Algebra and Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry, Introduction to the Calculus, Computational and Graphical procedures.

Introduction to Aeronautics
Aircraft nomenclature and the basic principles of airplane operation and design.

Mechanics
The study of statics: forces, stresses, and deflections; dynamics: accelerations, inertia forces and equations of motion.
