Born in Augusta, Georgia, but grew up in rural New Jersey
Mother - artist; Father - Patent Attorney in New York City and Washington, D,C.

Education:
Walnut Hill School, Natick, Mass.
Graduate of Smith College - pre-med and psychology major
Graduate work at N.Y.U. in organic chemistry 
Courses at Art Student's League

After Graduation:
Feature writer for New York Times 
Public Relations for Eastern Air Lines (while E. Rickenbacker was president)
Travel in England and the U.S.and by freighter in European waters (while visiting my uncle Sir Vernon Kell, head of MI-5, had to leave England in 1939 on a refugee ship)
Mountain Climbing, wilderness canoe trips, thoroughbred horse training Early flight training, private and commercial tickets, owner of tired Piper cub

W.A.S.P. (1943-1945) 
Houston and Sweetwater Air Force training
Assignment to Camp Davis tow target squadron
Assignment to Wright Field and transfer there to Fighter Flight Test
27 different planes flown (including 2 British bombers, 1 German bomber, fighters to YP-59, bombers to B-29[[)]]
After demobilization joined Wright Field Public Relations to write about FFT and BFT heroes

Married William Carl (1945), major USAF, Langley Field, VA, Designer of XP-82,
graduate of Princeton University
Lived on Long Island for approximately 30 years; retired to Virginia 
Two children - Son is professor of architecture at Cambridge University, England; 
Daughter lives in Canada, teacher of the flute

A director of Dynamic Developments, Inc, a company to research and build hydrofoil ships for the U.S. Navy which was formed by my husband and Dr. Robert Gilruth, former director of NASA Space Center in Houston. It was later purchased by Grumman Aircraft Corp.
