SUBJECT: Size of Clothing for Female Flying Personnel. Date 31 May 1944

A. Purpose:
1. To present data applicable to the sizing of women's flying clothing.
B. Factual Data:
1. Body measurements have been obtained on 447 WASP pilot trainees at the 319th AAFFTD at Avenger Field, Texas, and 152 flying nurses of the School of Air Evacuation at Bowman Field, Ky. For a full report of all measurements taken, see Engineering Division Memorandum Report No. 49-695-32A, subject: "Body Measurements of Female Flying Personnel," dated 1 September 1943.
2. The measurements pertinent to clothing size have been selected for special analysis, and tables have been prepared to give the basic dimensions needed for correct sizing of three types of garment: jacket (Appendix 2) trouser (Appendix 3) and coverall (Appendix 4). An explanation of terms used is given in Appendix 1.
3. Appendix 2 gives, for each bust size, the percentages of women pilots and flying nurses, respectively, falling within the limits given for the size; and the average, maximum and minimum hip circumference, waist circumference, and sleeve length associated with each size. As accessory information the average and maximum and minimum height and weight of the individuals comprising each size given.
4. Appendix 3 gives, for each hip size, the percentages of women pilots and flying nurses, respectively, falling within the limits given for the size; and the average, maximum and minimum of waist circumference, leg outseam and leg inseam.
5. Appendix 4 gives the percentages of women pilots and flying nurses falling into sizes classified by bust circumference combined with height. This table also gives average, maximum and minimum waist and hip circumference for each size, and average sleeve length and leg outseam.
