Sir:
This letter will be handed to you by Mr Cruikshank a gentleman who has been appointed by the Governor to assist in caring for the destitute people of this State.
I have thought it best that Mr C. should look at the condition of the poor in North Alabama first and have requested him to call on you and co-operate with you in this matter. I have sent to Gen Thomas a duplicate of my application for an increased issue at Huntsville and if there is delay in their arrival Mr Cruikshank will visit Nashville for the purpose of expediting their being forwarded.
Very Respectfully
