Colonel,
Your communication of the 10th inst relative to the establishment of intelligent offices is received.
In my weekly report of Dec 5. 1865 I gave you an account of the plan of Messrs Hardaway & Harris of this City. They have established an Intelligence office on a large scale which is in successful operation. In the same report I gave a statement of the operations of the Monroe. Co. Agricultural Association which is not only an Intelligence office in effect but also a provision for the destitute.
In Conecuh Co. a similar Association has been formed and is in operation. Every Superintendent and Assistant in the state is instructed to give all the assistance in his power to finding employment for laborers and furnishing laborers for those who wish them.
The Asst Supt of this City is furnishing laborers at the rate of fifty a day, to those who need them and are responsible parties.
