If however the parties holding the claims on which the executions are to be levied will settle with the Freedmen in full to the time that the sale is made in a manner satisfactory to yourself, then you may cease interference and annul the contract. With reference to Mr. Gardners communication under date of August 4th in regard to sale of property now occupied by Freedmen under arrangements made by Mr. Gardner I am directed by Maj Genl Swayne to say that you will prevent any interferences with the freedmen occupying the "School Lot" or any other lot referred to by Mr. Gardner in his letter above mentioned. Sect. 12 of the Act to continue in force, the Freedmens Bureau authorizes us to take charge of all such property.
