Dear Sir

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 22nd and 25th Ult and of the 1st inst.   In the absence of General Swayne, I would state that arrangements have been made to relieve the suffering of the destitute people of the State both white and black that part of the State which you refer to, will not be overlooked.  As soon as the General returns I will call his attention to your letters relating to the expenses &c of the school house lately destroyed at Stevenson Ala.

Dear Sir 

Your letter of the 4th inst to Genl Swayne who is now absent has been received.  Upon his return the subject of your letter will be immediately attended to.  The burning of the building will not interfere with the payment of any expenses incurred its repairs which were authorized by the General or, which it was the intention of the Bureau for to meet.

Captain,

The Desks spoken of in your communication of the 7th inst, are not to be paid for, from the amount authorized to be expended in repairing Building for Freedmens School.  The expenditure made in repairing building to the amount authorized, also the expense incurred in furnishing the School with Desks &c as directed by Mr Buckley, Supt of Education, will be paid by the Disbursing Officer at these Head Quarters on proper Voucher, and need not be carried on your Report of persons and articles employed &c.  Send an account of all expenditures to the Supt of Education at these Head Quarters as soon as the work is accomplished.  An Order will be issued directing a transfer of the building to the Supt.
