General I have the honor to forward herewith the Monthly Report of this Command for Dec 1866 Very Respectfully Your obdt Servant Maj Genl Head Quarters Sub Dist of Alabama Montgomery Ala Jany 10" 1867 Flogler Bvt Lt Col D.W. U.S. Arsenal Macon Ga Colonel I am this morning in receipt of your note of the 4" inst referring to papers in your hands from the War Dept for transmission to Messrs Webster, McElvain & Barney Cahawba Iron Works Jefferson Co. Ala. The address given you is probably correct, as these Gentlemen are engaged in working iron some ten or fifteen miles South east of Elyton the County seat on the Cahawba river. The best route of travel to reach them is to proceed Via, Selma, up the Talladega R.R. to a station called I think "Lime Kiln" in Shelby County, from which point there is a branch road north to the Cahawba River, terminating at the mines of the Cahawba Coal Co. These are about ten miles below the works of Genl Webster, and I suppose conveyances are all the while enroute. If you desire to go yourself or send a friend, I would be glad to introduce to my friends in the Cahawba Coal Co. Very Respectfully Your obdt servant Maj Genl 329 Head Quarters Sub Dist of Alabama Montgomery Ala Jany 10" 1867 316/ Elderkin Bvt Maj W.H. New Orleans, La. Major I am in receipt of your note of the 7" inst from Mobile. If I should authorize Martin to delay two weeks, as you suggest the delivery of the Corn I should become his surety in a way I should not like. I think I ought not to have anything to do with him. Capt Arthur has gone to Talladega and will be there in readiness to receive your stores.
