Your communication of the 11" inst asking if the Government will continue the issue of rations to the destitute, and stating that there is much destitution in your section, is received.  In reply I have to say that a new supply of corn and bacon for issue to the destitute of your District will be forwarded you early in next month.  Cols Beecher and Arthur are now in the North making the necessary purchases.

I am in receipt this morning of a letter from Judge Busteed written at Mobile on the 14" inst stating that on consultation he finds that of his own accord and without application from the Prosecuting or defending Attorney he has not the right to postpone the sale of the Selma property.  I have telegraphed General Swayne at Mobile in regard to it and will forward you any instructions I may receive.

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of both your communications of the 15" inst and in reply would state that the fine &c cannot be collected from the soldiers pay.  I have ordered a Non-Comd officer and four privates to report to you to relieve those mentioned in your letters and will send transportation orders for them to this place.
