The Assistant Commissioner directs me to inquire whether in the event of Lieut. Logan being relieved from duty as Bureau Quartermaster at Mobile, you can assume charge of said duties in addition to your present ones. It would involve of course, the necessity of separate book and papers, but the necessary clerical assistance would be furnished by the Bureau, and it is believed the interest of the Government would be subserved thereby

Yours of the 19th inst. relative to your retention of Mr. O'Connor as clerk, is received. You are hereby authorized to so retain him at pay of $75.00 per month. Mr. O'Connor can take the necessary oath before a Justice of the Peace at Greenville, at but small expense, and it is not deemed necessary therefore for him to come here for that purpose. All communications on Bureau business will be addressed to myself
