Your communication of the 24th inst enclosing order of revocation and appointment of Agents and Clerks is received. Mr. Pierce Burton is the person lately discharged, It is temporarily necessary to have at Demopolis a reliable clerk and he is the best one that can be found and after mature consideration I believe him to be thoroughly fit for the position.

Claus as Clerk and his appointment as Agent at a salary of one hundred dollars($100.00) per month dating respectively Sept. 30th to Oct. 1st 1867. Also appointment of Pierce Burton as Clerk at salary of one hundred dollars ($100.00) per month to date from Oct. 1st 1867. The blank Oaths enclosed will be filled up and returned to this Office.
