N39 Endorsement on letter of Bvt Maj T.H. Norton Office Probate Judge Mobile County Aug 12th 1867
Respectfully returned with statement under oath of Mr W. P. Hall who is willing to give up the negroes if required. Strictly I have no jurisdiction to revoke the letters for that purpose application should be made to the Probate Court that issued them in Choctaw Co Ala under the disposition expressed by Mr Hall no legal action seems to be necessary.
Geo W Bond
Judge of Probate.
Office Sub Asst Commr Mobile Ala Aug 20. 1867
Respectfully returned with attention called to endorsement of Judge Bond & sworn statement of Mr Hall. My own opinion that Mr Hall is a very worthy man and that children are much better off with him than with their mother and fully believing Mr Hall's statement which shows that the mother consents to his possession of the children, I have suspended action in the case to respectfully ask instructions.
George H Tracy
Bvt Maj and Sub Asst Commr
