D 32 Continuation of Endorsement (432) on letter of Elijah Dawson
Mobile. Ala. Dec. 13th 1867
Respectfully returned to the Office of the Sub Asst. Comr. at Montgomery, Ala. with the recommendation that the child Sallie be allowed to remain in Mr Giegans family, after personal inquiry into the case; public and private questioning of the child, and inspection of its surroundings - it is believed that this is a case where the law would operate with hardship in joining the child to her reputed father whom it has never seen and whose fraternity is questionable and for whom the child manifests the utmost repugnance. Sallie says her father is dead and her mother gave her permission for her to remain with Mr Girgan. She is well cared for and being educated. Mr Girgan has stated his willingness to relinquish the child without process of law upon notification from the Office.
