Respectfully returned I have had a personal interview with Mr Isaac Frank (the Gentleman named as being connected with this matter) who resides in this place he informed me that he purchased the clothing from one A. Blum & Son doing business at No 123 Chambers St. New York City and that the goods were consigned to him at Rome and that they were seized by Capt. C.A. De La Mesa Bvt. Maj. & S.A.C. Rome, Ga but that he had afterwards satisfied Capt. De La Mesa in regard to the clothing and that it had been restored to him. he has no bill nor account or other papers to substantiate his statement.

Respectfully returned to Bvt. Ma. Geo. Sharkley with the information that the within statement are untrue & malicious. No intimation was ever given by me or by my authority to Mr. RAines nor to any other person that the Huntsville Branch of the F.S. & T.Co would be removed from this office or that its operations would in any way be interfered with. Indeed Mr. Raines was distinctly informed soon after the removal of Genl Callis that the Bank officer might continue in this office as heretofore if he so desired.
