To his Excellency Lewis E. Parsons, Provisional Governor of Alabama.

Sir,
I am a Justice of the Peace in Beat No. 5 in Autauga Co. Alabama, and have notified my willingness to act as agent of the Freedmans Bureau, to General Swayne, and my willingness to receive Negro Evidence in compliance with General Orders No. 7, issued  by Brig. Gen. Swayne.

On last Saturday a freedman named Green Smith and his wife Ruth were brought before me at my Office in Prattville, charged with Larceny. C.S.G. Doster, Esqr represented the State in the trial of said parties and Henly Brown, Esqr  defended the Defendants - The State introduced the witnesses - The Defendants had stated that the were not ready for trial on account of the absence of a colored man named Daniel Booth and Stated in writing what they expected to prove by him. The lawyer for the State then Stated that he, for the State would admit all that Defendants stated that they expected to prove by Said Daniel, whereupon both parties announced themselves ready for trial - All the Evidence that the defendants proposed to offer during said trial was received without hesitation. Upon hearing the testimony on both sides I was satisfied that the Defendants were guilty of Larceny and required a Bond of $200. of them - After the trial was over the Defendants proposed to Swear
