was present. It was the occasion of my bringing W. R. Bergholz of Columbia S.C. into communication with the Government, who was afterwards sent to act on Genl Shermans Staff by General Grant. I am known to Wm. Price of Baltimore, or perhapse if you will communicate with H. A. Risley, Asst Solicitor, Treasury Department, it will be sufficient to convince you that I believe fully what I state.  May I be permitted to hope Sir, that so excellent a scheme may not be prematurely interupted [[interrupted]], but that these gentlemen may be permitted to show their appreciation of the action of the states, and the policy of the Government by well nigh accomplishing their purposes. I believe good to the country would come of it.
