The following are some of the facts that came to our knowledge a colored man, names Gus White was arrested on a charge of larceny, and conveyed to prison, but was released on payment of seventy five dollars; on the following evening he was again locked up and fifty dollars of the money was refunded to his wife, the remaining being retained to "pay the guards for their trouble". The same evening the mans wife brought him his supper when he requested her to obtain his release. She accordingly brought the money and gave it to her husband, the guard promising to see him safely home. The unfortunate man lived in the [[strikethrough]] city [[/strikethrough]] southern part of the city and was murdered in the northern part of town, with a revolver in the hands of the guard mentioned above. In explanation the guard states that he had been attacked by deceased with a knife  but a slight investigation will go to show that a prisoner is never allowed arms, and no knife as other weapon [[strikethrough]] s [[/strikethrough]] was found about the person of the deceased or near the scene of the death. Now general we would request to know by what authority men are arrested and released without trial and merely on payment of money
