I was an original Secessionist, because I believe honestly I was right, got whipped, but my faith is unchanged, believe yet I was right, yet have accepted in good faith the issue, have honestly taken the oath and intend honestly to abide by it.

You can judge me by Faith or Words, and receive as you think proper, but I can assure you of one thing, General, I would rather trust a thousand honest original Secessionist men, than one Union Sneak born & raised under a Southern Sun.

I would be pleased to receive the Orders of the Bureau of F.R. & A.L., and if you think proper to appoint me, would act as Agent. I am your honorable & invalid & want any honorable position that pays - no other.
