to us, the Bureau is cut off from any revenue whatever. Maj Nott is claiming the right to dispossess colored families of the government tenements they have been occupying, at a time when they are needing them more than ever. There seems to be a persistent effort making to drive all Freedmen out of house and home although they have cheerfully paid the exorbitant rents charged, and have lived honestly and decently. I had hoped to get possession of these tenements and building materials so as to work a counter check to this injustice by furnishing industrious and honest Freedmen with houses at a small expense, and it seems very hard that an agent of our government is the stumbling block in the way of accomplishing this. If any thin can be done for their relief: I hope to hear from you speedily to that effect.

Very Respectfully
