Colonel: The continued silence of your office with regard to the matter of a new detail for the men of the 12th Iowa leads me to fear that the application will not be successful. The interests of the Bureau at Camden are meantime in a state of suspense, and now as Christmas Season approaches, it is more than ever necessary that the Bureau should be represented there. If it would have effect upon the authorities at Mobile, I would respectfully ask you to telegraph the pressing need we are in of these men, and also make use of the fact, if it would be of any advantage, that we can employ them as civilians, in case the regiment is soon to be mustered out: As to engaging Southern civilians, I know of none whom I could trust as are
