General Howard arrived here yesterday and left this morning for New Orleans. He addressed the colored people at the Medical College last night.

He saw Dr Nott in reference to the college and was treated by him in a most insulting manner

Dr Nott told the General that he would rather see the building burned down than to have it used as a School for colored children

General Howard instructed me to retain the building as long as possible, but could not give me any assurance that we could retain it long enough to warrant the expense of necessary repairs
