General:

    I have the honor to address you / by the request of E.C. Bearich,/ in behalf of the Freedmen's School established in this City. The Order of the Sec. of War that this building / the Medical College / be "at once turned over" to its original Faculty, if complied with - to the letter, will "at once" spread disorder and confusion among the colored population. It is to them the visible sign that every white hand is not against them - that God in this goodness is not entirely leaving them to the tender mercies of those who "are left to believe" and propagate the sentiment of him who proselyted to his own peculiar faith a third part of Heavens sons. The school immediately broken up,
