I likewise found that both of Capt. Steinbergs clerks were more or less interested in there transactions before however, I could procure evidence sufficient of their complicity (except while executing Capt. Steinbergs orders) one of them made his escape, and has thus far, eluded capture. 

 From the other clerk I recovered the sum of two hundred & twenty four dollars ($224.00) being the amount they had jointly received for eight barrels Pork stolen from Sub. Dept.

I relieved Capt. F.O. Steinberg receipting for his stores, property, and fund. arrested and brought him - with Mostyn and Freir under guard to Montgomery. 

Mostyn and Freir have been carried over for trial in November - I have preferred charges against Capt. F. O. Steinberg V.R.C.

It is the intention of General Swayne to prosecute every one connected with these transactions to a full recovery of the value of all stores, embezzled, or missaplied.
