Esteemed Friend
Having heard that there was great suffering among the freedmen in the department I write to ascertain the facts the case. We are making up a good deal of clothing, and are receiving a quantity from England including blankets. Please advise me at once if there are facilities within this reach for the [[underlined]] proper [[/underlined]] distribution of which, of clothing mostly for women & children, the points to which they should be sent, names of person, to whom can sign & an estimate of the quantity needed
We have an order from General Saxton for government transportation, please send us one if in this power.
