I have recd the order assigning me to duty as Asst. Supt. Freedmen &c, the accompanying orders and communication in regard to the cutting of Bob Foreman (Cold,) by Augustus Foreman
I sent and arrested Foreman and secured two of the witnesses, Simeon Cooper (White) and Lavina Cooper (Cold) The other witness named, Sara, is in Georgia.
The evidence of those two, was to the effect that they did not know that Bob was cut until about two hours after it was done. The Justice of the Peace Wm Hooks had, it seems from my information, no jurisdiction in the case, he living in Macon Co, & the past charged with the cutting in Pike Co.
Bob, the man cut was present, had almost recovered of his wounds, and said he thought the Justice in that Beat, (Squire Harris), had never been notified of the case. Foreman said he had witnesses he desired to have present. I released him under Bond of one thousand dollars to appear Mond, July 8th 1860 for further investigation. With the facilities at hand
