Nashville Jany 8th 1866
Maj. Genl. Swayne

Asst. Commr Bureau Refugees Freedmen &c
I telegraphed you from Huntsville that the supplies which we were expecting had not reached that point. Came directly to this city and had an interview to day with Genl. Thomas and also with his adjt Genl the result of the matter is an order from the Commr at this place to Capt Bend Commissary at Huntsville directing him to issue rations to distribute in Ration Returns signed by proper officer of Freedmens Bureau. (The ration allowed is specified in No 8 War Dept Bureau Refugees Freedmen &c ) They state that the Commissary at Huntsville has an abundance of supplies. &c I fear this order will not answer our purpose fully. Have written to Maj. Goodfellow today & will await a reply from him before returning to Huntsville.

Very Respectfully,
Your obt Sevt
M.H. Cruikshank
