Roanoke, Ala. Oct. 24 1866

Gov. Wager Swayne,
Montgomery, Ala.

Dear Sir

We learn that there is a lot of supplies for our county now at West Point, but our County agent says they must be sent to the northern part of the County. Now, there are, in this - the S.E. part of the County, (Randolph) - several cases of extreme destition - widows and old and infirm blacks, who are now at the point of starvation. Ariving to the great failure of crops, it is impossible for their neighbors to sustain them longer. We therefore earnestly petition you to send us a lot of supplies specially for this part of the County. Dr. J. H. Davis, who is every way reliable and responsible, agrees to take charge of them, and issue them to such cases only as those mentioned above. Our county is very large, and the County Agt., inefficient, to say the least of him, and is now removing from the County. Should you agree to comply with our request, ship them, say supplies for 100 families for 3 months - to Dr. J.H. Davis, Roanoke, Randolph Co. Ala. with any instructions you may desire to give. very respectfully to
