I have the honor to say that Col Callis arrived in due time and I should have answered your very kind letter sooner but for the constant labor & care in transfering everything to the Col and assisting him in starting.

I feel no small degree of gratitude that I have been enabled to so conduct the affairs of this Dist do to receive your thanks, but it is not as well regulated as I could wish by any means, but it is owing to the scarcity of clerical aid.
