We are so miserably crippled here in finances, that I could not raise even this paltry sum, without considerable delay. Mr. Buckley promised to aid me in supporting the school this year; I have invited this gentleman to come out on the strength of this promise. If I could obtain an advance to this amount ($60) it would very greatly assist me in getting the school in operation. There is no school for negroes in this place, except two or three taught by people of their own color. I have had numerous applications from colored people within a month past to know when my school would go into operation. It will give me great pleasure to forward to you from time to time information respecting our work here.
Very respectfully
your obedient servant,
John D. Easter
